February 07, 2015
BAKED LOVE HEART DONUTS

Get your bake on this Valentine's Day! Love a donut as much as we do?  Now you can make them romantic with Vickie Liu's simple baked recipe.  If you are a member of Vickie's cult Instagram following, you would more commonly know her as the pastel sweet sensation@vickiee_yo (if you are not a follower, she is a must follow)!

Whether you're entertaining a table for two or a long list of friends, this one's sure to get their hearts racing.

We completed the look with foil balloons from the fun team at 'Poppies for Grace' and photography by the 'as creative as she is gorgeous' - 'Miss Pigeon Productions'.

Get your bake on and get lucky!

WHAT YOU NEED

INGREDIENTS

  • 2/3 cup self raising flour
  • 1/3 plain flour
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup vanilla bean yoghurt (plain or Greek is fine too)
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 TBS vegetable oil
  • 1/3 cup finely desiccated coconut
  • DECORATIONS

  • White chocolate melts
  • Oil or powdered base food colouring
  • Sprinkles (optional)
  • METHOD

STEP ONE: Pre-heat oven to 175oC (FF oven). Spray two heart shaped 6-hole donut pans with baking spray, and lightly dust with flour.

STEP TWO: In a large bowl, mix sifted flour and desiccated coconut and set aside. In a medium bowl, whisk together yoghurt, milk, sugar, egg and oil. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, and fold until incorporated.

STEP THREE: Transfer the mixture into a large zip lock or piping bag, and fill approximately halfway full. Do not overfill, or the donuts will have muffin like tops.

STEP FOUR: Bake for 9 – 11 minutes and transfer onto a cooling rack.

STEP FIVE:While the donuts are cooling, place chocolate melts in a microwave safe bowl and microwave in 25 second intervals until melted, stirring in between to avoid overheating. When completely melted, add desired food colouring and dip donuts into the chocolate. If adding sprinkles, ensure to put on straight away, as the chocolate doesn’t take long to dry.

    ENJOY!
