LENZO loves Sprinkles for Breakfast for all their #quirky DIY recipes, so you may have noticed over the past few weeks we have been featuring some of our favourite recipes with you lovelies!
Next up, doughnuts are the next craze to hit Melbourne, so why not dress them up with this #incredible marbled icing! These are light, fully + delicious home made doughnuts - and the best bit? They're super easy and fun to do!
WHAT YOU NEED
- 1 cup of plain flour
- 3/4 cup of cake flour
- 1 & 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 cup of melted butter
- 2/3 cup of sugar
- 2 egg
- 1 tablespoon of vanilla paste (or 1 teaspoon vanilla extract)
- 3/4 cup of buttermilk
- Doughnut Pan
- 3 cups of icing sugar
- 3-4 tablespoons of milk
- 1 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
- At least 2 different colors of food coloring- we love the blue and pink that Sprinkles for Breakfast used
STEP ONE: Preheat oven to 180 degrees celsius
STEP TWO: ombine flours, baking powder + salt. Set aside.
STEP THREE: Mix butter and sugar in a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment.
STEP FOUR: Add eggs and vanilla paste.
STEP FIVE: On a low speed, add dry ingredients. Mix until combined.
STEP SIX: Slowly stream in buttermilk + mix until combined.
STEP SEVEN: Place batter into a large piping bag + pipe batter into each doughnut mould.
STEP EIGHT: Bake for 10-12 minutes.
STEP NINE: Place doughnuts on wire rack to cool.
STEP ONE: Put powdered sugar in a bowl.
STEP TWO: Whisk in milk and vanilla.
DECORATION . . .
STEP ONE: Once doughnuts are cool take them out of the pan and place on a wire rack.
STEP TWO: Place a piece of parchment or wax paper under the wire rack.
STEP THREE: Place about 3 tablespoons of icing into a small bowl.
STEP FOUR: Use toothpicks to place small splotches of food coloring all over the surface of the icing.
STEP FIVE: Pour icing all over the doughnuts.
