LENZO’s top sustainable party tips
Consider hiring greenery or asking your florist to use long-lasting flowers
Hiring greenery for your party is a great way to add colour and vibrancy to your event space. It’s also better for the environment and your pocket!
However, if you really love the look of fresh flowers, try to use in-season, native blooms. You can even recycle them afterwards by giving them away to charity.
Hire instead of buy where you can
A great way to host a fabulous event and not have 30 candle holders left over is to hire your party supplies instead of buying them. This way, you’ll have the latest decorations at your party and you won’t have to think about where you’ll store them afterwards. (Plus, the environment will thank you for it!) Just some of the things you can hire or reuse include cushions, rugs, furniture, and table centrepieces.
We also understand that some decorations only allow for single-use, so where possible, buy these items in reusable or compostable and biodegradable materials.
Use local suppliers to minimise the emissions from travel and transport
Support your community: utilise local vendors and makers who don’t have to travel that far to deliver your product. The closer your vendors, the less CO2 will be emitted through transporting your food, furniture or decorations.
Balloons, confetti, stationery and signage – these are all party essentials! But you can still make more eco-friendly choices when it comes to your decorations. Here’s just some of the ways you can host a party sustainably while still decorating your entire event space:
- Ensure balloons are popped and discarded properly
- Choose latex balloons over foil
- Use paper confetti, which is biodegradable
- If paper confetti isn’t possible, use larger cut confetti
- Choose bubbles over confetti
- Send out digital invitations, rather than printing out
- Use recycled paper for invitations
- Wash and keep drink stirrers to reuse
- Keep acrylic signage to reuse, if possible
Go green with catering
A party just isn’t a party without food and drink! While fruit and vegetables are the most sustainable produce, you don’t need to provide a vegetarian menu when it comes to hosting your event. In addition to using biodegradable food serving utensils, other ways you can make eco-friendly choices when it comes to your food and beverages include:
- Implementing bottle and cardboard recycling
- Serving beer from draught where possible
- Opting for local alcohol brands that have had to travel less
- Composting food waste
- Using ingredients that don’t come in packaging
- Use local ingredients and work with a caterer who is able to ensure sustainable food practices
And, after the party ends, consider cleaning up afterwards with non-toxic chemicals over traditional cleaners. Not only are they perfectly safe around children but they keep the air you breathe clean and don’t harm the environment.
