Today we party with Mel, who has created the most amazing kids slumber party business based in Perth and Melbourne called Sweet Dreams and Goodnight. Keep reading below and check out her beautiful work also in our Spooky Slumber Party Editorial.
Introduce yourself and your business.
My name is Mel and I created Sweet Dreams and Goodnight, Australia’s original and Slumber party business. We create the ultimate sleep-over experience for children and their friends, while removing the stress for parents. Our parties include the hire of individual tents, mattresses, bedding, bed trays, lanterns and decorations for styling. We offer a range of kits and activities to keep everyone entertained and create memories that will last a lifetime. Sweet Dreams and Goodnight commenced operating in Perth of January 2016 and franchised to Melbourne in April 2017.
Why did you start your business?
Before having children, I loved my job in hospitality and events. After having my family, I knew I didn’t want to be working the late nights. I decided I would start my own business with the passion I had for events but shift it to focus on the little people instead of the big people, but soon saw how competitive the market was. I would need something new to the entertainment scene. I wanted to create a business that was different and that no one else was doing here in Australia and something that created memories and joy to kids and their families While researching options, I found there was a gap for party providers in the 7+ age group. This started me thinking what was I doing at that age, and what parties memories had lasted the longest. The answer, without a doubt, was the humble sleepover.
What gap in the party market does your business fill?
Sweet Dreams and Goodnight fills that gap for the 7+ age group offering them a stylish, unique, and memorable slumber party experience for the kids to enjoy. We take the stress out for parents who are wondering the answer to questions such as, "where are the kids going to sleep?" "Do I have enough beds?" We provide a solution for how to keep the kids busy throughout the night with our activity packs.
Why should you and your business be invited to a party?
Sweet Dreams and Goodnight provides the ultimate sleepover experience so once the food has all been eaten and the games and activities are over, the party can continue right up until the moment they fall asleep.
What do you find captivating about the world of events?
That imagination is the only limitation. It’s such an inspiring industry with so many talented people and supplier working within it. It blows my mind everyday seeing something new and different. Seeing a vision come to life and making clients dreams come true is what it’s all about.
Who are your go-to suppliers?
My go-to suppliers are ones that complement our products and values. I like to support local small businesses and building relationships that you know you can count on when you have a client that gives very little notice.
What is your go-to party tip?
WIth a Slumber Party, remember you are going to have kids sleeping in a house that is strange to them. To a lot of little humans, being in the dark in unfamiliar surroundings is scary and a small nightlight can make it seem just that little bit safer. Sleepovers are almost a rite of passage in childhood: staying up all night, sharing secrets, and tucking into a midnight feast (don’t forget those Tim Tams). Sure, you may not get any sleep until the wee hours, what with continually telling them to “turn it down!”. Yep, you’ll probably have tired and grumpy little people for the rest of the next day. But that is what slumber parties are all about!
What is in your party purse?
Phone, bag of lollies and Panadol.
You are hosting a dinner party and you can only invite three guests – dead or alive. Who are they?
Inspirational powerful women that I could learn so much from.
What is your go-to party outfit?
Black dress with some bling and comfortable shoes, so I can dance all night.
Describe your dance floor style.
Those that know me would say it isn’t the dance floor style, it is bar tops, tables or center stage #goodolddays! Old skool hip/hop and R&B is the tunes and dancing like you don’t care.
What story will be told about you the day after the party?
“A good laugh and fun.”
