Both dressed in denim, Tom and Rhiannon first met at a mutual friend’s going away party. “I had only been back in Australia for less than a month after living overseas when my friend invited me to a party. Tom approached me not long after we arrived. After talking for what seemed to be most of the night, numerous drinks later and Tom trying to persuade me to kiss him (which I didn’t), I offered Tom my number.”
After that, it took a month of Tom’s persistence for Rhiannon to agree to go on a date. “Tom had arranged dinner at a lovely restaurant, even getting out to open the car door when he picked me up. It took about another month for us to go on the second date. After that, things seemed to move a little bit quicker!”
After dating for 18 months, Tom booked a surprise romantic getaway to Mt Tambourine. He romantically proposed on one knee, with a ring in tow, under a beautiful waterfall.
The couple chose the historical Broadway chapel to exchange vows. “The chapel was beautiful as it was, so we just added a grey linen cloth over the altar with crystal jars of white flowers and we had two arrangements hang from the front pews. We had Fox and Fallow also make a hand-written chalkboard welcome sign.”
Celebrant Emily Jade O'Keeffe helped the couple write a beautiful personal ceremony. “We wrote our own love stories and vows. We didn't hear each others’ until the day.”
For the ceremony, Rhiannon chose a 1920’s inspired Rachel Gilbert soft white beaded gown with Johanna Johnson vintage beaded cuff and headpiece. Another floral headpiece by Estelle, from the French Petal, was worn at the reception, complementing the “Spring-inspired” décor.
The reception followed at an intimate ‘inner city meets country’ Brisbane restaurant, Spring. The ‘season’ became the inspirational focal point. “I wanted the decor to complement Spring.” Rhiannon describes the mood as “effortlessly luxe, fresh, organic and raw romance.” The décor consisted of long wooden tables with mismatched chairs, long natural runners, antique bronze candle holders and mason jars filled with white flowers and greenery.
Flowers played a key role in dressing the space. Rhiannon & Tom worked with The French Petal to select textured soft blooms to complement the neutral colour scheme. The flowers included a mix of Chrysanthemum (white), David Austin roses, Dusty Miller leaves (green/grey), Dahlia (cream/white), Hypericum Berry (white/texture), Pieris Japonica (white/green), Berzillia Berry (green) and scattered fresh figs.
Oh and for dessert? “We had three amazing cakes made by Jocelyn's Provisions. One was a two-tier, Naked Coconut and Lime Cake with 6 layers of buttercream, white flowers and greenery cascaded down the side. The second and third cakes were Naked Chocolate Sour Cream Cakes with white chocolate ganache covered in white flowers and fresh figs.”
