SUSHI & SAKURA: NOA’S JAPAN-INSPIRED 1ST BIRTHDAY

A Japanese-inspired first birthday party by Milk & Honey Cake Creative

Minna sama, konnichiwa! Have we got a treat for you! Put on your prettiest kimonos, take a seat on the floor seiza-style, and get ready to indulge in this kawaii 1st birthday party from fab LENZO supplier Milk & Honey Cake Creative!

Inspired by the Land of the Rising Sun, super-mum Grace styled a modern and feminine Japan-themed party for her daughter Noa, paying homage to her favourite country and her name, which is Japanese for “my love.”

Rich in colour & culture, this first birthday is truly beautiful. Grace tells us, “I wanted to do something a bit different, before Noa started requesting ‘Peppa Pig’ or ‘Frozen’-themed parties!”

We think this lush celebration – with its bold explosions of red and pink infused with gold accents and distinguishable Japanese floral patterns – provided the perfect accompaniment to the jaw-dropping cherry blossom trees that surrounded the space.

The birthday setup incorporated many elements of Japanese culture and design, including the custom-made low-laying table, which was a nod to the traditional chabudai where Japanese families gather to eat meals on the floor.

A red table runner was draped across the tablescape and was a gorgeous contrast against the pink plates, marble napkins, and gold cups by Kura & Freya Party Couture. And aren’t those flowers just breathtaking!?

We were also impressed by the grazing table, which featured a rainbow of fresh fruits, cheese and crackers, as well as other charcuterie elements. O kawari (a ‘second helping’), anyone?

Grace also incorporated a gold cart filled with Japanese soda, paper cranes, origami, and hanging parasols into the overall styling concept.

And, we need to spare a minute or two for that cake. Made by the sensei herself, Grace designed and baked a two-tier cake with contrasting layers. A vivid red was used for the top level, while the bottom featured a traditional Japanese design complete with floating lanterns, cranes, and hibiscus.

And did you spot the adorable kimmidoll™ that was placed alongside the cake as an extra touch? These Kokeshi-inspired dolls were also set up around the venue and incorporated in the cookies, too. Speaking of desserts...
