LENZO shares our tips and tricks for styling an unforgettable party
“I'm hosting a party.”
These four words can either leave you giddy with excitement or breaking out in a cold sweat. If you’re the latter, you’re not alone. From the planning through to the execution, it can all be quite stressful. No wonder party stylists are in such huge demand!
However, with LENZO’s help, you can create and style a party that will have your guests talking about it for all the right reasons! Without tooting our own horn, we know a thing or two about parties, so strap yourselves in for a whirlwind of info overload from the best in the biz…
Are you ready to get the party started with LENZO?
Planning is key!
Rule number 1: You can’t create a show-stopping party in under a week
Rule number 2: You can’t create a show-stopping party on your own!
While it may seem obvious, you just can’t organise and create an amazing celebration in under a week, or on your own. Believe it or not, the best parties – however effortless they may look – are a collaborative effort with many different businesses, all of whom may not be readily available in the week or even two weeks before your event. It’s for this reason alone to plan ahead well in advance.
In order to get the party planning in motion, you need to know:
- The reason for celebrating (is it a birthday, baby shower, or engagement?)
- Your guest list (who is invited - how many adults/children, etc.)
- The chosen venue
- Day and date
Then, you can move onto the fun stuff, like the colour palette or party theme. Stuck for ideas? Check out our blog for event styling inspiration – we’ve done it all: beach engagement party, kid’s jungle party, luxe pink baby shower, and even a boho wedding in NSW.
HOT TIP: Sometimes, the theme dictates the venue and vice versa. For example, it might be difficult to execute a disco-themed party when you’re hosting it outdoors at a winery. The theme and the venue should complement each other, so keep this in mind when choosing your event space.
Don’t forget all your party stationery either, such as invites, place cards, and menus. Your event invitation is the first formal bit of information that your guests will receive, so it should set the tone of the occasion and theme.
Stick to one major focal point (or two!) and do it well
If you don’t have the budget (and let’s be honest: parties can get expensive), it’s a good idea to stick to one or two features and do it well. The idea is to pick a corner of a room, a wall, or section and decorate it completely (rather than spreading your styling efforts too thinly.)
It’s no secret that we love to incorporate a major party trend - balloon installations - at our editorials for the sheer impact it delivers. Also, not only do they look beautiful but they provide great photo ops – essential for Instagram and shareworthy images!

We’ve also used hanging floral installations at many of our shoots.

Other major party elements could be a:
- Jaw-dropping floral feature
- Fun photo booth
- Decorative desserts station
- Sophisticated place setting
- Luxe chandelier

Remember the little details
While focal features are definitely important, it’s the little details that can make or break a party. Ensure your styling theme is carried through all other elements, including the party decorations, drink stirrers, music, and even food placement. All these things can help make a party go from good to GREAT.

Lighting is another detail that is often underestimated. If you’re hosting an intimate dinner party, harsh lights can dampen the mood. Instead, you could set the scene with a few well-placed candles to help create a laid-back ambience.
Whether you’re hosting a kid’s birthday or a corporate launch, consistency is key: having matching pieces such as a table + chairs will make your party look more put together. If you don’t think you’ll have enough seating, hiring furniture is a great way to keep your costs down. The same principle applies for everything from cutlery to the servingware and even linen: hire instead of buy, so you’re not left with 30 vases at the end of your event (just ask LENZO's Founding Director, Elleni about that experience!).
Party food and drinks
Use your party as an excuse to get fancy with the food and drinks. Unless you’re hosting a kid’s birthday, now’s your chance to ditch the potato chips and instead bring out the cheeses, antipasto platters, and gourmet desserts. None of us at LENZO are MasterChef contestants, so we always enlist the help of our fave bakers to help us bring our food fantasies to life!

Have limited space? Hire a bar to separate your food from your drinks, so all the guests don’t mingle in the one spot.
If it’s an adults-only celebration, we’ve also got some great DIY cocktail recipes that you can make for your party!
