HOLA indeed. Not only is the wedding of Lisa & Jake original, bright and vibrant but the energy captured by Cassandra Ladru is utterly electric. Are we surprised? Totally not! This is the wedding of interior designer, stylist & stationery queen, Lisa Schiffermuller of Ivy Invite. What fun, how I wish we were invited!
From Lisa + Jake:
“We wanted to do something a little different for our wedding – so we chose this beautiful place in Mexico where we had travelled a few years earlier. Somewhere that reflected us and our style. I did all the styling myself and certainly embraced the Mexican culture - sugar skulls and touches of colour. Most of the items were sourced from Etsy and what I couldn't find I just made myself. Everything was packed into a large suitcase and flown all the way to Mexico.
The styling was definitely Mexican inspired - and most of the items that we used as table settings were from our own home décor. We took over our own Mexican blankets, which were used during the ceremony, at sunset drinks and also on the cake table. For the reception we had one long table that sat all 35 guests. The space had hanging feston lights and customised papel picado with our names and wedding day. For the table setting we also used white pineapples + real pineapples, colourful flowers in Mexican cans (sourced from the local supermarket days before), skull napkins + ceramic skulls from the local market, cactii in glass jars, colourful arrows, plywood + paper signs, plywood guest tags and metres upon metres of tassel garlands."
We didn't do the traditional 'not seeing each other before the wedding' thing (a bit hard when you are all staying in the same villas!). We started setting up together around 10 am which took a few hours. We had a spiritual ceremony, it was so beautiful. It was all about our love and journey together, there were definitely a few tears. The moment we had our first kiss the mariachi band came marching out and the fiesta kicked off- it was a truly magical moment. The bridal party then went into the main town of Puerto Escondido, Zicatela, for photos - while the guests drank cocktails with a mariachi band playing. We returned to join everyone for sunset drinks on the terrace before a sit down dinner reception, followed by tequila and dancing.
Our favourite moment of the day was definitely the ceremony. We put so much planning into the overall styling and reception you forget how important the ceremony is. It was so special and all about the LOVE! We were both blown away by how beautiful and emotional our ceremony was."
LENZO loves a tip. What is Lisa +Jake's?
"Destination weddings are so RAD - we LOVE Méhico!! We cannot recommend a destination wedding highly enough! For anyone who is planning to have a destination wedding, we would recommend to just go with the flow. There are lots of elements you can't control and loved ones who won't be able to come. You have to embrace it all. In the end everything will come together and on the day you don’t really care about the little things."
